About
Hi!
I recently completed my PhD in clinical psychology. My main interest is in the nature and development of experience, with a specific interest in addressing the philosophical and methodological problems of experience in the social sciences. I primarily identify as a humanistic and phenomenological psychologist.
My dissertation research looked at the use of Eugene Gendlin's focusing practice as a way of training clinical psychology graduate students in self-reflection, self-assessment, and self-care--all important dimensions of the evidence-based and ethical practice of psychology. Currently, these reflexive dimensions of clinical expertise are not typically addressed in formal graduate curricula in clinical psychology, although they are required for professional competence.
I also have a special interest in the relationship between cognitive science and phenomenology. I did my undergraduate work in Interdisciplinary Studies at UC Berkeley. My concentration was called "Mind and Society" and my course work was in cognitive psychology, cognitive linguistics, cultural anthropology, and rhetoric.
